Water circulation is managed by 4 pumps:

Eheim Compact 2000+ is a Powerhead, which is
placed in the sump, and acts as a return pump. It is stated to run 2000
l/h, but a part of this is lost to the lift height of app. 120 cm (4 ft.).
The pump accordingly does not contribute much to any real water movement
in the tank, more so because the outlet is directed towards the bottom
in the right corner of the tank. The Tunze pumps are, as their names implies, Stream pumps, which essentially is peopellers with a protective grid around them. They are all positioned on the side wall in the right corner of the tank, behind a wall of reef cheramic, but pointed in different directions: Tunze Stream 6085, rated at 8000 l/t. is app. 15 cm. below the surface and pointed upwards and diagonally forward in the tank. Tunze Stream 6055, rated at 1500-5500 l/t., is a variable pump, which is controlled by a single-controller, to change between 1500 l/t and 5500 l/t. in 3 seconds intervals. It yields an increased turbulence, and counteracts the tendency for calm zones, where dirt can settle. The pump is placed just above the bottom, and points along this, under the rocks in the right side of the tank. The Seio Polario pump is rather unusual; In principle a Stream pump, but with the propeller mointed in a tube, able to reverse direction at preprogrammed intervals (here 30 seconds). It is not shown in the picture, but is mounted behind the same Ceramic wall. |
